Blogger Recognition Award

Happy October everyone! Now that school is in full swing, and I've got a new job, I'm quite busy and haven't had much time or inspiration to blog! That's where Rae comes in, with a wonderful tag: The Blogger Recognition Award. (Thank you Rae! :)

Thank the blogger who nominated you.
Tell a little bit about how you started blogging.
Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers.
Nominate 15 other bloggers.

I started thinking about blogging what seems like a long time ago; over a year for sure! I was reading lovely blogs like Wonderland Creek and A Lantern in Her Hand, and experiencing some serious blog envy. ;) I was thinking "If only I could do that. I could never do that....or could I?
Then a few nights before Christmas I was lying in bed with the twinkle lights on in my room (because Christmas) and was suddenly full of a resolution so strong it could not wait until New Year's Day. I could blog, and I would. And I did, the very next day. :)

My Advice
Watch and Learn
I watched, no observed other girls' blogs for a looong time before I had the courage to start my own. I'm pretty glad I waited that long, though. I got a good feel for how to arrange a sidebar, how to sound chipper in your posts (not that I'm not chipper in real life!), and how to use Pinterest as a resource for pictures. I learned that having a steady rhythm to posting (whether that be once, twice, or thrice a week) really helps both blogger and follower, and that sometimes less is more. I also learned that this corner of the blogger community (the period drama, tea-drinking, mostly homeschooled corner) is simply amazing. And blogging is an independent hobby; you have the freedom to blog whatever way you want.

Sorry to copy Rae's advice, but it is really important to mention that the best way to get comments/followers is to be a good commenter yourself. The best way to catch flies is with honey, but only if it's sincere honey. What I mean is, find the blogs and bloggers you really, truly like, and make your comments sincere. Don't butter up people just so they follow you and then abandon them. It isn't very nice, and other bloggers might notice! And no, this sort of thing hasn't happened to me, and I doubt anyone reading this acts this way. But it's a good thing to keep in mind.
Lastly, read what Rae says about not getting followers or comments. She puts it very well, and it's something I have to remind myself of often!

I nominate:
Each and every follower, both (official and unofficial). Comment tags are welcome! :)

  1. You're welcome!! :)

I love that first piece of advice! It took me a while to get there, and I wish I had observed more blogs before I started my own. And yes, this corner of the blogger community is simply amazing. :)

I'm glad you agree with me!
Thanks for your kind words. :)

I loved reading this! Have a lovely day!

    1. I'm glad you liked it! Thanks again for nominating me! :)

  2. Great words of advice, Abby! I'm not sure how I'm going to come up with anything new after yours and Rae's posts (you two took all the good advice. Haha!), but I guess I'll try. ;)

I'm so glad you started a blog! You've done a swell job with it, and I've enjoyed your posts more and more as time goes on. (And yes. You definitely know how to use Pinterest. The pictures you come up with! Just lovely. :))

    1. Haha it's ok if we say the same things! :) It'll be reaching a slightly different audience anyway. I'm so glad I started too! Part of the reason I decided to was because I wanted to comment with nice people like you. :) Thank you! The time I spend on Pinterest every day pays off! ;) And you think I'm getting better at writing/posting? I hope so!!
